The sales associate is responsible for the sale of new and used units. The initial impression that he/she creates is the impression that the customer will have of the entire dealership. The position requires an individual with excellent personal relation skills, product knowledge, and sales ability in following the dealership sales system. An outgoing, pleasant demeanor is a fundamental element for success as well.

The successful associate will interact in the most professional and honest manner possible with both customers and his/her fellow employees. He/she will seek first to understand, then to be understood. He will be motivated by a desire to excel and not merely be seeking to “get by.” This position will require the individual to be very organized, as many of his/her day to day responsibilities are time sensitive. Procrastinators, poor time managers, and the unorganized will be unable to perform to acceptable standards for any length of time.

He/she must also understand that everything done in the department is done to create sales and put money in the register. He/she must be friendly, honest and knowledgeable about the products he/she sells. He/she must learn and use the key sales fundamentals as well. In short, he/she must participate in a “Sales Culture” within the department understanding that the most important thing that happens in the dealership is customer satisfaction. Every action, attitude, display, product, and service in the dealership is solely for this purpose.

He/she must foster this attitude in him/herself and those around him/her so that over time it is truly a natural atmosphere or “culture” in the department.
